Here to stay!

Well, who else but a programmer would start his blog with a statement like that? Yes, I know it was a lame joke, but from it you can gather a few things: one, I am a programmer who knows at least a bit of C++. two, I am most likely from the Southwest. three, I am a complete nerd. To be honest, all of these are true.
I have been a programmer seven years now. Mainly, I’ve worked with C++, but I’ve had three years of Java as well. Truthfully, I’ve been out of practice for a while now.
Two years ago, I dropped everything and switched from a Computer Science degree at Texas A&M to art school. That’s right. Art school. Currently, I am starting my senior year at the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design.
I know what you’re thinking. Art school? Is he nuts? He had a whole career ahead of him at A&M!!!
To be honest, I was and have been fighting two sides of myself for years. Creative and Technical. They’ve been competing in my mind for far too long. I couldn’t help notice that I was one of the only students in my classes at A&M who wanted to use my knowledge for art and design.
Discussing the issue with a good friend of mine, himself a children’s book illustrator, I was told if I wanted to do anything with art, I needed professional training. Just like that, I stopped right where I was and transferred to SCAD-Atlanta.
Oh, no! He’s going to completely dismiss his technical side! Be patient. I’m getting to that.
I am currently majoring in Interactive Design and Game Development and minoring in Technical Direction. With these, I can learn game design, some animation, and specialize in technical skills. My specialties, (I hope) when I graduate in March of ‘09 will include particles, lighting, texturing, shader programming, and rigging.
Ohhhh. I told you to be patient.
Anyway, this is my blog. I’ll be keeping y’all up-to-date with my progress. I’ve never really kept up with any blog before, but I am forcing myself to this time. Hopefully, this can last on into my career. (fingers crossed)
Oh, and yeah. I’m from Texas. God’s country.
